Wyatt Earp Kitty at home on the road.

The maiden voyage of Truck #18 is about three-quarters through at this writing. I really need to learn to say Van #18 I suppose. Just so used to nothing but big-trucks for all these years. Going from private pet transports only, such as rescues, lost/found and the like to a completely commercial service available for everyone was a scary move for us but even though we haven’t finished our first official run in the new van, everything is a resounding success. Barnum, who has traveled a half million miles with me and Wyatt with his 300,000 + miles both settled right in; life on the road for them is just what we do!

There is much work yet to be done on the van – we ordered custom cages, the bunks have to be installed and some sort of storage cabinets designed. The outside needs to be lettered, or do we go with a wrap? I can see Wyatt Earp Kitty’s mug, bigger-than-life staring at all the passers-by!

The pets and their people that we are meeting are absolutely wonderful. Breeders and rescuers, cat and dog fans, from coast to coast – we all have one thing in common. We care about the health and safety of our furry family members. Kudos to Mari P. in Pennsylvania who rescued a young dog sight-unseen and had us ship it to her home. There is such a thing as love at first sight. We witnessed it when we rang the doorbell and the entire family was there to greet Roxie. Thanks also to Jennifer and “Oreo”, Ashley and “Toby”, Gloria and “Kika”, Pye and “Captain”; all of you who have trusted us to safely transport your precious little friends so far on this first trip in the new vehicle. Also a shout out to Southpaw Bulldogs in Tennessee for the wonderful conversation and we are looking forward to being your puppy shipper.

Once we get a rhythm down I think it will be easier for me to keep up with the blogs and tweets! Seems each time I have sat still this last week, I fall asleep. Driving is not a passive activity for a professional driver and it ranks as the most important job for us right along with the care of our pet passengers.
